Sustainability & corporate social responsibility (CSR)

UP Events is located at a beautiful green location on the edge of Amsterdam. We are located in the green ‘The Gardens of West’, a self-governing region within Amsterdam, where sustainability is a key element. After nearly a century of discussion about the destination and interpretation of the four green “polders” (areas) between Amsterdam, the canal ring Haarlemmermeer, Halfweg and the N200 road, an administrative decision was made in 2007. The four areas were included in the Main Green Structure of Amsterdam and have since been further developed by the Nieuw-West district into a unique, multifunctional recreational area: Gardens of West.

Connected in our ideals, the entrepreneurs in this area are committed to sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR). On this page you can read more about what UP Events specifically and actively contributes to a better and more sustainable world. Sustainability plays a role in what we do as much as possible. In this way we work on better events, business or consumer, with the right balance between people, the environment and society.

UP Events Achieves Green Key Gold Certification: Sustainable and Responsible Business

UP Events in Amsterdam has been awarded the Green Key Gold certification, the highest recognition for sustainable businesses in the events industry. This certification confirms that UP Events meets strict criteria in environmental management and corporate social responsibility.

Achieving the Green Key Gold certification means that UP Events takes measures to minimize its environmental impact. This includes energy and water conservation, waste management, and the use of sustainable materials. Additionally, UP Events prioritizes local and environmentally friendly suppliers whenever possible.

The certification highlights that UP Events not only focuses on organizing events but also does so in the most sustainable way possible, with respect for both people and the environment.

Sustainability at our venue

  • Onsite we use a lot of natural materials and we keep as much green (trees, plants, grass, etc) as possible.
  • UP Events is part of The Gardens of West, where sustainability is key in this area. In this way we obtain our wood from a tree nursery in the neighborhood and we always try to realize our events with the smallest possible footprint.
  • We have opted for Beelen for the processing of our waste. They separate our waste and use it 99.45% again for reuse. Beelen stands for: closing the material circles, and this unique approach means the lowest possible impact on the environment.
  • Mid 2020 we have switched to using ecological soap and cleaning products from, among others, Marcel’s Green Soap.
  • And recently we only have ponchos made of biodegradable material. So if it rains, feel free to use a poncho from us.

Sustainability in our hospitality industry

Because we find sustainability and corporate social responsibility so important, we also let this come back in our hospitality.

  • Our menu is a straightforward menu consisting of a mix of pure and sustainable ingredients. Additionally, we work with as many organic products as possible, products with the Better Life quality mark, and we have vegetarian and vegan options.
  • From 2020, we will offer more vegetarian & vegan food, so the emphasis is less on meat, but there will be more honest, delicious vegetables and fruits offered. Not only healthier, but also better for the environment!
  • We serve daily fresh fries from FrietHoes. Prepared traditionally, without processing or additives, and with a constant focus on a zero waste policy.

UP Events & Pantar

At UP Events, we have the privilege of working with a great employee who comes from Pantar. This collaboration brings numerous benefits.

First of all, we offer our employees a valuable and meaningful work environment, where they can utilize their skills and experience personal growth.

In addition, this collaboration fits perfectly with our commitment to sustainability and corporate social responsibility. Our employee supports us in growing plants, maintaining green spaces, and caring for interior plants. In this way, we contribute to a greener environment and strengthen our ecological awareness.

Furthermore, we believe in the power of inclusivity. By offering this employee from Pantar a place at UP Events, we promote diversity and social cohesion within our team. We are proud to make a positive contribution to an inclusive society.

Energy

We are well on our way in terms of energy consumption as well.

  • UP Events gets its energy from Greenchoice. This way we can be sure that we can meet our energy needs in a CO2-neutral way.
  • “When it’s cold in winter, we use (additional) heaters to warm up the spaces, but only when the spaces are actually being used.”
  • In addition, we use as much biodiesel as possible. This is sustainable, vegetable diesel. It is fossil-free, reduces CO2 emissions by 89% compared to regular diesel, has very low emissions of harmful pollutants such as particulate matter, nitrogen, and soot, contains virtually no sulfur particles or aromatics, is easily biodegradable, and is virtually odorless.
  • In order to minimize the use of the gas network, UP Events uses pellet stoves for almost all of its locations. This means that the front half of our premises is completely off gas. The pellet stoves burn on organically obtained wood pellets which burn long-lasting and clean. The use of pellet stoves, in combination with the right pellets, is CO2 neutral.
